But not without a price. During the battle, Roy had lost a considerable amount of blood, stopped only by the fact that he had cauterized his wounds shut -- and that process had left him with third-degree burns all over the left side of his abdomen.
Thus, Roy was confined to a hospital bed, receiving treatment for his burns, while waiting for his body to replenish what blood wasn't replaced via transfusion. He had a roommate, but said roommate was out of the room for an analysis on his spinal cord. The door was open, and a young sergeant stood guard outside the room. Roy was gazing absentmindedly at the wall, replaying the events that brought him into this bed in his mind.]
